Accessibility Compliance

Accessibility compliance has become mandatory for all public accommodations and commercial facilities since the adoption of the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the State of Texas Architectural Barriers Act. Since the early 1990’s, all new public buildings and commercial facilities must be designed to be fully accessible.

The ADA also mandated ongoing accessibility upgrades for all existing public buildings and commercial facilities. The state of Texas requires compliance as a part of any alteration or remodeling project. Penalties for noncompliance can be severe.

Leonard Lane, a Registered Accessibility Specialist in Texas (#290), provides accessibility surveys for property managers and building owners, and design services for bringing buildings into substantial compliance.
