The Challenge of Minimal Square Footage

This space planning and interior design project consisted of creating a 1,400 sq. ft. office suite for a branch of the U.S. Patent Office in the basement of Rice University's library.  The available space was a challenge, consisting of low-ceiling, windowless, awkwardly shaped areas between an elevator shaft and a stairwell.  Chelsea was able to transform this "cave" into a flowing and comfortable working environment with entrance lobby and receptionist area, director’s office, computer workstations and a video conferencing room.   Frosted glass block created the illusion of exterior windows while maintaining privacy from other library patrons.
